Get your import/export permit first hand from "small five VET CLINIC"

We are happy and proud to announce that we are now authorized agents for import and export permits for your pets and want to give you a rough idea what to expect if you decide to take your animal abroad or bring it to Kenya.

The most obvious advantage is you get everything first hand from us.
No waiting, running around doing payments here and there, struggling with authorities and officials. We do the whole process for you, even deliver the pet to your doorstep (within NAIROBI). The price depends on the country the animal is going / coming from. Different countries, different laws. Ensure you inquire on time (most European countries, Australia and New Zealand) have very strict regulations.

PET IMPORT (into Kenya)
The Kenyan pet import process demands that only healthy, rabies free pets are allowed entry, we will guide you and process all your relevant documents as the pet must enter Kenyan airspace as manifest cargo. We will help you with the clearing and handling process, vet check and any health adjustment if necessary on arrival.
Pups below three months should not be vaccinated against rabies. Micro-chipping is important but not a must.

EXPORT
The pet export process will majorly be determined by the destination country. If you are relocating your pets we advise you to inform our office at least 4 months in advance for preparation purposes. Micro-chipping and then vaccination is a mandatory requirement. Most countries will require a battery of blood work and other tests before approval. Feel free to ask for a quote.

• Micro-chipping (we do micro-chipping, it must be done before vaccination)
• Up to date vaccination certificate (with stamp and signature of a KVB registered vet surgeon)
• Drawing blood for tests (which depends on the country)
• Processing the blood samples 
• Dispatching them to a recognized lab
• Contacting the vet authorities in the export country to organize import permit
• Organizing a sky kennel with watering container and funnel
• Pet handling and logistics at the port of exit

We had a wonderful, fun Sunday at the Shaggy Dog Show educating pet lovers on rabies.

Our dogs, Dibba (Rotti) and Polly (Boarbel), together with our two Masai, scooped 1st runners up position in the "Fancy Dress"-Category.

Pictures of the KSPCA Shaggy Dog Show

"small five VET CLINIC" educated on rabies during the annual KSPCA Shaggy Dog Show at the Ngong Race Course.

Dr. Gabriels Rottweiler participated in two categories:

• "best groomed dog" - 3rd place and 
• "best dressed dog" - 2nd place 

The show is fun for old and young whether you have a dog or not. It is interesting to watch: funny dressed dogs and their owners, agility show, bouncing castle for kids, yummy food and a raffle,... make sure you don't miss it next year!

Wheelchair for a puppy

Clients who have recently visited us might have seen that cute puppy in the front office. It is paralized (due to "self-vaccination" into the spinal cord in the former home?!?) and cannot move the hind legs.

We tried to get it walking again and were hopeful due to the young age. But it's time to accept that the nerves won't grow back and try new ways. We came up with the idea of building a dog-wheelchair. Very common in the US, new to Kenya.

What we are still looking for are wheels. Anyone has a pair of old stroller wheels or some from those kid's cars/toys? They shouldn't be too big - it's still a puppy :) About 10 to 20cm diameter. Bigger might also be useful in the future.

The status quo is unacceptable though it doesn't feel pain it pulls the legs and gets wound easily. Locking it in a cage is not an option either. Help us, donate two wheels and give this puppy a chance!

Is your Vet registered?

Dear Customers,
Due to misunderstandings reoccurring in the past we would like to inform you that ALL KENYAN VETERINARIANS must be registered under the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) begin of each year.

To ensure your animal is treated by a professional check the online search from the KVB: http://www.kenyavetboard.org/index.php/find-a-vet-surgeon

When your animal is vaccinated the Veterinarian must put his name and Registration Number (4 digits) in the certificate. This ensures that the patient got the right vaccine at the right time which is very important if it comes to dog bites and Rabies!



Note! This is how a valid vaccination entry should look like:
A vaccination-sticker, the name and date, the signature and KVB number of the Vet!

Parvo kills - but this time the dog was lucky ...

A few days ago this Spitz was brought to our clinic. She had bloody diarrhoea, was very weak and had already water in her lungs.

The last Parvo cases all ended lethal but she looked hardy and strong and responded immediately to the infusion and injections. The survival rate for your dog with that virus is minimal and the disease can easily be avoided with a yearly vaccination.



We always preach that prevention is better than cure!
And this case proofs is so clearly:
We treated the Spitz and her brother and the bill for medication, care, boarding, transport, disinfection and cleaning (the virus is highly contagious) got high. The dogs could have been given their yearly booster for their whole life.

Yearly boosters and regular deworming are a must for a healthy pet!

Prevention is the better, saver and cheaper option!

Sadly the cases of lethal Canine Parvovirus are not decreasing. Weekly we see shocked owners that cannot believe that this virus at an advanced stage is not treatable anymore. It kills your dog and a vaccination can prevent that.

Vaccinate your Pet!

Today we had two serious cases of canine parvovirus.
Prevention is the only way to ensure that your dog remains healthy because the disease is extremely virulent and contagious.
Survival rate depends on how quickly CPV is diagnosed, the age of the animal and how aggressive the treatment is. However, even with hospitalization, there is no guarantee that the dog will be cured and survive.

Signs of parvo are:

• lethargy
• vomiting
• fever
• diarrhea (usually bloody)
• loss of appetite

Please check your pet certificate! If you are not sure bring your pet and the certificate to the clinic and let our doctors check on it. Prevention is far cheaper than a treatment.
